QotD: Summer Solstice
Yesterday was the summer solstice for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere. How did you celebrate the arrival of summer and the longest day of the year?
I ran 10K trail run race in Beaver Creek, CO to celebrate solstice. For the first 2 miles, I thought I was a total retard running with that constant inclination. I ran only twice before that race there and the route had very mild inclination. I didn't have time to train myself for this particularly challenging race. Thankfully, many people just walked and I followed the main stream.
The second 1/3 was much more pleasant since it was all flat. I was so glad I was running that race because I would not attempt to run that course by myself since I'm specifically good at getting lost among my other "great" features. Looking down the mountain full of aspen was so peaceful.
Downhill was very exciting, but not easy. The trail was super narrow through out the last 1/3 of the race, but the downhill part was particularly challenging because the surface was not flat. You'll have to excuse my poor description about the trail in English. The center of narrow path was mostly sunk in, which resulted V shape. The outcome of that circumstance was me running as if I pooped in my pants - feet were very apart. Plus there were many rocks.
Even where the surface was flat with nice downhill that helped me run much faster, it had this hidden sharp U turn. I was screaming like I was on a roller coaster.
Pushing toward the finish line, I was very happy that I ran that race. I don't know my time, but the post race pulled pork BBQ sammy was super delicious..
