Yesterday was the summer solstice for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere. How did you celebrate the arrival of summer and the longest day of the year?
I ran 10K trail run race in Beaver Creek, CO to celebrate solstice. For the first 2 miles, I thought I was a total retard running with that constant inclination. I ran only twice before that race there and the route had very mild inclination. I didn't have time to train myself for this particularly challenging race. Thankfully, many people just walked and I followed the main stream.
The second 1/3 was much more pleasant since it was all flat. I was so glad I was running that race because I would not attempt to run that course by myself since I'm specifically good at getting lost among my other "great" features. Looking down the mountain full of aspen was so peaceful.
Downhill was very exciting, but not easy. The trail was super narrow through out the last 1/3 of the race, but the downhill part was particularly challenging because the surface was not flat. You'll have to excuse my poor description about the trail in English. The center of narrow path was mostly sunk in, which resulted V shape. The outcome of that circumstance was me running as if I pooped in my pants - feet were very apart. Plus there were many rocks.
Even where the surface was flat with nice downhill that helped me run much faster, it had this hidden sharp U turn. I was screaming like I was on a roller coaster.
Pushing toward the finish line, I was very happy that I ran that race. I don't know my time, but the post race pulled pork BBQ sammy was super delicious..

What are some of the best(and worst) things about summer?
Submitted by L33tchica.
Best things? Lots of local fruit and veggies.
Worst things? Being a female. Wearing a bra in summer is so fucking painful... Whenever I can buy some cheap dress that makes bra an option, I go right ahead.
Who was the meanest teacher you had in school?
My 1st violin teacher.
Now I'm the meanest violin teacher on this planet.
Who helped make you the cool person you are today?
Submitted by Amy - Sister Brown Hair Surprise.
The cool person? I don't know if I'm even cool.
So here's a list of people(close people, not like an author, philosopher, artist, etc) who influenced my life.
My oldest sister. She was always inspiring in her high school like when she made top 5 in the country after taking some test. She went to the top university and became a reporter of the school's newspaper which was super lefty. She even traveled to China in 1990 or somewhere around that year. She eventually got doctor after a long battle with my parents who wanted arranged marriage for her.
Marko. Just over all. He introduced me to Krishnamurti. I think this answers a lot, but if I can add more things. He opened my ears to cool music like Yo La Tengo, Erika Bahdu, Miles Davis, WBEZ(this is not really music, but...), etc. Oh, and he got me hooked on Apple, photography, travel and food. He also dumped me too which worked out great.
Chris. If Marko is the introducer to music, Chris is the cultivator of my music world. On top of that, his generosity and kind soul keep me better person.
Barb. One of the sharpest, most articulated and yet having kind heart people I've met. Her strong ethics and morality keep me alerted.
Sarah. Her passion of teaching violin/viola while having fun AND discipline is truly amazing. The way she communicates with her hubby, Karl is incredible. They are just way too cool... And she introduced me Green Mill, Chicago and I became a big fan of small venue of GREAT live jazz bar.
Mr. M. My teacher. He is just too... perfect. He plays perfectly. He teaches like a saint, not always super nice in lessons but still knows how to get things done with musically troubled students. So that makes him a perfect teacher. A runner who inspired me to start running and eventually run marathons.
MG. Although I've known him only a little more than 8 months, his commitment, loyalty, sarcasm and love of Wiener Circle cheddar fries will linger in my life for a while. I became a big fan of the score of South Park, the movie thanks to him.
What's your favorite type of cheese? Or, if you don't like cheese, why not?
Submitted by Draegon Scribe.
Manchego is my favorite... So good...! Sharp white cheddar and creamy goat cheese work for me too.
I just ate some delicious pasta full of garlic(I think it had 10 cloves) and half cooked onions.
I am excited to pick who I am going to sit next to at the meeting tonight!
